- PHIL’S DISC BRAKE ROAD BIKE -

Phil approached me coming from a MTB background and had been doing a bit of road cycling for the ease of getting out and keeping the fitness where he wanted it but wanted a better bike for taking care of the road business. The immediate approach fell towards the familiarity of disc brakes and a slightly bigger tyre than the usual 25mm diameter. Staying on the theme of Phil’s MTB’ing, we went for the mountain bikers choice of moving parts, and for the first time ever, used Hope hubs and headset married to the fantastic Knight Composites 35mm disc specific rims.

As with all of my customers, I mentioned the idea of sending me anything but bicycles when it cam to paint references. He sent over a few images from the NASA website as he had a fondness for the skies. The image of the rings of Saturn made me think of Jack and his experimental approach to paint, I knew for a fact he would be up for playing around with some texture and effects. A bit of airbrushing, low pressure splattering, metallics and a dab of chameleon base coat and the result was a great example of the different things we can do with paint with a little imagination to the application - look closely and you will see that there a even little flecks of paint that represent the rocks that orbit Saturn making up the rings.

I’m a little late posting this one as it came right as I ha to move out of my workshop last year and got lost in the Abis.
